How I Edit my Instagram Photos

Instagram is an amazing little app where you can post square-cropped photos of whatever, and we all know that Instagram is one of the apps we all have on our phones. If you don't have Instagram yet, then that's just weird! Unleash your inner "photographer" inside you! You will find everyone on Instagram, from celebrities to animals, from photographers to bloggers and you'll discover people from everywhere in the world! I even met my amazing husband through this app and my life has never been the same ever since the day I downloaded the app on my iPhone!

Instagram has now become a very big thing in the social media field and I feel like we can't just be posting regular looking photos, if you know what I mean. We can't just slap on some Instagram filters and be on our way. We gotta step up our Instagram game! We have to brand ourselves well, even though it's "just" Instagram.

In my few years of using Instagram almost every single day, I've developed an editing process that has worked for me very well and I want to share how I do it with you today! I hope you find this helpful and that you learn a few tricks to incorporate in your own editing style.

THE APP I USE:

This is my actual "editing" page on my phone! I arranged all my photo and video editing apps on one page so I can access them easily and my main photo-editing app is VSCOcam.

I used to edit with so many other apps and I ended up having so many edits of one photo for the sake of getting that eye-satisfying edit and often times, that process takes away the beautiful quality of my photos - until VSCOcam came and turned everything around, in the best way possible!

I have never been in love with any other app as much as I am head over heels with VSCOcam. I sometimes even say out loud, "gosh I love this app!"  The UI is very modern and clean, they have the greatest filters and editing tools your phone could ever have, you can publish visual stories through your own VSCO Journal, and last but not least, you are able to find inspiration from the app itself! I've also noticed how VSCO has massively shrunk my editing time, as opposed to how I used to edit before! VSCO is seriously a smartphone essential and I think it's the best editing phone app out there!

I will show you how I edit my Instagram photos through the VSCOcam app.

1. I open VSCOcam and I select the photo I want to edit

2. I go straight to the "tool" section (it is the screw driver icon, as seen in the photo above)

3. I straighten the photo

4. I make the composition look better by cropping it. I don't really crop them into squares because I like to post non-square photos on my VSCOgrid.

I cropped it to put Jorge in the center of the picture

5. I adjust exposure and temperature.

6. I now head on over to the "paintbrush" icon to pick a VSCO filter. For this photo, I chose the M5 filter. You can also adjust the levels of the filter.

7. Then I add some contrast (if needed)

8. For that extra warmth and personal touch,  I add a little bit of orange in the shadows

9. I sharpen the photo

10. Then I'm done!

I highly recommend these preset packs. If you don't have VSCOcam yet, you're missing out and I really suggest that you download it right now! The app is free and it comes with free filters you can download from within the app. For more information, visit VSCO.CO.
